Commission on Archives and History

It has been a busy month for the Museum of Social Justice board members. In addition to
collaborative classes with Otis College of Art and Design and California State University
Los Angeles, on April 12, 2013 board members Walter Dominguez, Leonora Barron,
Shelley Morrison, Betty Huebner, Aida Ferria, hosted a tour and presentation of the
Museum, for the Methodist Western Jurisdiction Commission on Archives and History.
Many of the historians in attendance did not know the detailed history of the founding
of La Plaza UMC. Leonora shared the history of the accomplishments of the founders
of the Church and Aida described her family’s decades long presence at the church and as
business owners on Olvera Street. Meanwhile, museum historian Keith Rice revisited the
different locations of the Church before it finally settled at it present location, perhaps
the most prestigious address in the city, because it is where it all began. Please enjoy the
photographs.
