Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin) February 3, 1978 to present
While well known for being married to the star George Clooney (2014), Amal Clooney has solidified her own name in history through her human rights cases as a lawyer and activist. Her legal field being that of international law and human rights cases. Some of her largest clients included nations, Armenia being one of the biggest. She was the lead lawyer for the case against Turkey to recognize the Arminian Genocide in 1915-1917. This has been her focus for much of her career, and she is well known in legal circles for being among the best.
Barbara Jordan February 21, 1936 to January 17, 1996
A woman with many accomplishments to her name, Barbara Jordan was the first African-American woman from the south to be elected to the House of Representatives, the first African-American to be elected to the Texas Senate, and the first African-American woman to have the keynote address in a Democratic National Convention. As a lawyer she did all she could to support the Civil Rights movement and in this regard, she was able to gain better working and wage conditions for here constitutes. She was able to show her true metal under presidents Jonh F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson by supporting their political campaigns and in the case of the latter was supported in gaining a seat in the House of Representatives. Her legacy is supported by the fact that she was a woman of firsts and serves as an inspiration for women of color.
Ralph Nader February 27, 1937 to Present
Best known for his work as a consumer attorney, Ralph Nader had spent his life fighting to protect consumer rights and bringing the dangers of popular products to the attention of the public. His best-known work Unsafe at any Speed (1965) brings the flaws of car manufacturers in full view. This includes manufacturers reluctance to apply new safety features to their standard models. Nader also founded many social institutions that were based around the idea of keeping consumers safe from poorly made products. These include “Public Citizen,” “Clean Water Action Project,” and others. Nader has run for president on several occasions on the platform of enforcing more stringent laws on American manufacturers and their products.
